My first post in a minute, and I wanted it to be something important. I love narration, and one of my most recent projects strikes me as one that’s going to go boom. It was a lot of fun to read and work on.
Reset by Kevin Charles is a great example of a high concept (like “Snakes on a Plane”- you know pretty much all of it already!) that really grabs your mind.
What if on your 50th birthday your body suddenly Reset to 25 again?
And listen, I’ve narrated a ton of FSF books with a great premise, but the proof is in the pudding as they say. In this case what really impressed me was the detailed, almost ruthless exploitation of that theme. Over and over, through characters you come to really care about, Charles shows the likely consequences and results of folks’ various decisions and reactions around this momentous, unexplained phenomenon.

Why is it happening? How will families, groups, and the nation at large react? The impact in all its manifestations is so well explored, and always tied to characters (that appeals to me more and more as I narrate stories, it’s all about the characters, right?).

Interesting!
I don’t think I’d reset. It’s been so much work to get to where I’m now, I don’t want to do it all over again. Instead I’d love to learn more, write more, experience more until my time comes. I mean, what’s the point of living if you know it might never end?
It’s a wonderful idea though, right? And most of the action in the story takes place about 23 years AFTER the first reset. And nobody knows what will happen the second time… :: cue dramatic music ::
